PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Fire Bureau and Multnomah County Sheriffs Office River Patrol officers responded to the Willamette River near the Fremont bridge Saturday afternoon after a passenger injured her leg.

Crews reached the 24-foot pontoon boat and found a woman suffering from a traumatic injury to her right leg. The passenger had been pulled out of the water and was on the boat needing medical attention.

The victim was transferred via rescue vessel to the PFB Station 21, where she was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

The MCSO River Patrol deputies conducted an investigation at the scene, and arrested the operator of the boat, 34-year-old Haley Ronnigen of Portland, on charges of boating under the influence of intoxicants.  Ronnigen was sent to the Multnomah County Detention Center.

The Boat Accident Reconstruction team will handle the further investigation of the crash. The BAR team is made up of Oregon State Marine Board members and members of participating agencies from around the state including the MCSO.
