Police: Suspect caught after carjacking PSU student

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police stopped a stolen car and arrested a man accused of carjacking a Portland State University student on Wednesday, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers responded to a parking structure at 1631 S.W. 12th Ave. at 10:27 a.m.

The victim, police said, was forced into the vehicle by a man, but managed to escape and call for help.

Officers in the area stopped the stolen car and took the suspect into custody.

Barry McCarthy, 48, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of robbery, kidnapping and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
