Community helps Battle Ground PD replace teddy bears for children in crisis

BATTLE GROUND, WA (KPTV) -

The Battle Ground Police Department has been overwhelmed by the response from generous people in the community who want to help replace their ruined teddy bear collection for kids.

Officers use the stuffed animals to help comfort kids during a crisis.

Their entire collection was destroyed, though, when water leaked into the storage room.

When officers asked for help, dozens of city workers, local businesses, customers and organizations answered the call.

"We stick to helping each other in need and the outpour of help has been awesome out here," Sgt. Chris Crouch with the BGPD said.

City officials said they had so many people donating stuffed animals that they had to turn some away because they ran out of room to store them all.

"So I think we've got a great volunteer spirit, always willing to help, and I think this is another example of that willingness," city manager John Williams said.
