Friend of man accused of Washougal assault said family had been threatened by trespassers in the past

WASHOUGAL, WA (KPTV) -

A Washougal man is behind bars accused of shooting at a biker riding across his property.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon in the Jones Creek area near Washougal.

Jered Parker was riding his dirt bike on private property with a Go-Pro camera on his helmet when he suddenly heard gunshots.

That was the moment Darrin Diegel confronted Parker on his property. In the video, it appears that Diegel is holding a handgun by his side.

Parker said he was riding there with a friend and his 7- year-old daughter, and thought the trail was a place he'd ridden many times.

It is actually private property and no trespassing signs are posted, but Parker said he thought it belonged to the state.

After a couple days of investigating, deputies arrested Diegel Wednesday night on charges of assault two. He made his first court appearance Thursday morning.

Parker said he thought Diegel was going to kill him.

“His first response is to just jump out in the middle of the road and start shooting?  Directly at me?” Parker told Fox 12. “I’m not one to get scared really quick and i was terrified."

A friend of Diegel's told Fox 12 after court Thursday that trespassers have been violent with Diegel’s family in the past, but no one from the family had any comment.
