Vancouver teacher pleads guilty to child rape involving teen student

Posted: Updated:

A Vancouver teacher accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student in her office at school has pleaded guilty to charges of child rape and tampering with a witness.

Stephanie McCrea, 36, changed her plea in court Thursday.

McCrea was the director of the drama department at Evergreen High School when she was arrested in January.

According to court documents, the 15-year-old boy told detectives he had been having a sexual relationship with his teacher since December 2014.

The boy told investigators that they would meet in her office to kiss four to five times a week, according to a probable cause affidavit, and they had sexual intercourse twice, once at her house around Christmas and again in her office after school following winter break.

According to court documents obtained at the time of her arrest, McCrea has a 9-year-old son and was separated from her husband.

The Evergreen School District placed McCrea on administrative leave when the allegations first surfaced. In court in January, attorneys said McCrea continued talking to the victim while she was on leave, including creating a fake Facebook account to communicate with him.

Court documents state McCrea also rehearsed what to say with the teen if they were ever interviewed by law enforcement, including practicing questions he could potentially be asked and critiquing his responses.

McCrea pleaded guilty to four counts of third-degree child rape and tampering with a witness Thursday. She was taken into custody without bail pending a pre-sentencing investigation.

She is due to be sentenced on Sept. 30.
