Crews fight brush fire near Newberg; homes evacuated

NEWBERG, OR (KPTV) -

Several homes were evacuated after a brush fire started burning near Newberg Thursday night.

Fire crews from a number of cities and counties, including Newberg, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue and Washington County Fire District No. 2 responded to the fire near Heater Road and Smith Road around 10 p.m.

Firefighters said the fire traveled down a steep hill in an area that was hard to reach. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control. In all, it burned about 14 acres.

Fourteen homes were temporarily evacuated because of the fire, but those residents have since been allowed to return to their homes.

There were no reports of injuries or damage as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
