The Skamania County Sheriff's Office was searching the area around the Sawtooth berry fields Friday for a woman who went missing while picking berries.

Wasco Fujiwara, 87, of The Dalles, was reported missing by her daughter Thursday afternoon.

Fujiwara's daughter said the two of them were picking huckleberries in the Sawtooth berry fields and she last saw her mother around 1:30 p.m. near the Forest Road 24 summit at Surprise Lakes.

When she returned to the area, her mother was gone.

Deputies said Fujiwara suffers from early-stage dementia.

Sheriff's deputies and volunteer searchers combed the area Thursday but weren't able to find Fujiwara.

Search teams were joined by an aircraft from the Hood River County Sheriff's Office and two dog teams.

Anyone who sees Fujiwara should call the Skamania County Sheriff's Office.
