The Oregon Department of Forestry has reported that the Stouts Fire near Douglas County has grown to 8,500 acres since starting on Thursday.

John Buckman who is the ODF Team 1 Incident Commander said that, "this is a tough fire because of the challenging terrain and abundant, dry fuel."

The ODF said that the drought has created unusually dry forests that are prone to fast-spreading fires and that between yesterday and last night night the Stouts Fire grew 2,000 acres.

There are currently 800 firefighters who will be splitting responsibilities based on their expertise.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office issued a Level 3 evacuation for residents in the Azalea area and a Level 2 evacuation for residents near Galesville.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation shelter at the Canyonville YMCA.
