PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man who stole an SUV that was left running with the air conditioner on quickly abandoned it and was then arrested, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of a possible carjacking at Southeast 130th and Stark Street at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Officers met the victim who said he had left his 1995 Toyota 4Runner running so the air conditioner could cool it down, when the suspect got in the SUV and began to drive away.

Police said the victim tried to stop him, but the suspect fought him off and got away.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a Portland hospital for treatment.

The SUV was found abandoned by police about six blocks away from the initial incident.

Officers talked to several witnesses who provided information leading to the identification of the suspect as 27-year-old San Saechao.

Saechao was found at his home on the 12600 block of Southeast Salmon Court and taken into custody. He was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of third-degree robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.
