Vancouver PD investigating string of arson cases

Posted: Updated:

The Vancouver Police Department is hoping new surveillance pictures will lead to the arrest of three people believed to be involved in a string of fires.

Officers said those fires occurred in the pre-dawn hours of July 23. Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of W. 16th Street where they found an abandoned vehicle on fire.

Soon thereafter, officers responded to a report of a dumpster fire less than a block away, and when they arrived they found a garbage can on fire next to a building.

Myriam Hamieh, the manager of World Beauty Wholesale, said they suffered some damage to their building and garbage dumpster. She said she is now paying close attention to her surveillance video that showed the fire breaking out.

VPD officers said the three people seen in that video are suspects in the fires.

“Obviously it’s horrible. Thankfully nobody was here at the time and it was after hours," Hamieh said. "I think it would’ve been a lot worse if we were here, but thankfully nobody was here."

Officers said they are looking into a total of four fires that took place over a 24-hour period from July 22 to July 23. No one was injured in any of the fires,  and VPD officers are hopeful the pictures and surveillance video someone will lead to someone recognizing who could be behind it all.
