WWE, Ronda Rousey memorialize 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper

Posted: Updated:

On Monday night the world of wrestling remembered "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.

"Monday Night Raw" on the USA Network opened up with a tribute to the WWE Hall of Famer who passed away Friday in Los Angeles.

Performers from the WWE and others across entertainment and sports memorialized Piper, born Roderick Toombs, over the weekend, including UFC champion Ronda Rousey after her win in her latest fight Saturday in Brazil.

“I just want to say we lost a really close friend, Rowdy Roddy Piper, who gave me permission to use his name as a fighter,” Rousey said in her post-fight interview. “I hope him and my dad had a good time watching this today.”

Piper was a fixture of Portland wrestling in the 1970s, and of "Portland Wrestling Uncut" that taped at the Fox 12 studios as recently as 2013.

Piper was also well known in the community from his acting roles and local business partnerships.

Piper is survived by his wife Kitty and four children.
