Man hit by MAX train, seriously injured in Hillsboro

HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

A man suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a MAX train in Hillsboro on Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the area of Southwest 185th Avenue and Salix Terrace at 10:10 a.m.

Witnesses told investigators a man approached the crossing and waited for an eastbound train to pass, but he did not see the oncoming westbound train.

Police said the train was traveling 20 mph when it hit the 27-year-old man. He fell to the ground and suffered a serious head injury. 

Firefighters initially described his injuries as life-threatening. 

TriMet said shuttle buses were serving the MAX Blue Line at stations between Orenco-Northwest 231st and Elmonica-Southwest 170th. MAX delays were expected in the area until 2 p.m.

This investigation is being conducted by the Hillsboro Police Department, TriMet and The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team.
