CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A crew with Clackamas Fire District #1 just got back from fighting Oregon’s largest wildfire, the Stouts Fire that is burning in southern Oregon.

Steve McAdoo, who just returned home last night, said there is a chance this fire will burn past summer.

For four days Clackamas firefighters were dealing with hot and very dry conditions. The day they arrived temperatures were running in the triple digits.

McAdoo was part of a nearly 20-man crew that was responsible for watching over structures including homes.

“Everybody is on anywhere from five to 100 acres, so very spotty, long driveways, we had great mapping so we could head down a driveway and check out a house,” McAdoo said.

His crew was making sure residents were ready to leave if they were forced to evacuate. He said the more than 1,200 people working on the fire are fighting more than just flames. It’s not only hot, but very dry and smoky too.

The longtime firefighter said, “It’s very steep, just heavy forested brush area and right next to that is fields.”

The fire was at 10 percent contained Tuesday, and because of how large the fire is, it could even burn well into fall or winter.
