Japanese exchange students tour Beaverton Police Department

Posted: Updated:

A group of exchange students from Japan got a rare opportunity to get a tour of the Beaverton Police Department.

Officer Chester Lamb has been an ambassador for BPD and has been putting on these tours for Japanese exchange students for a few years.

On Tuesday, Officer Lamb gave the group a tour of the police headquarters in Beaverton.

Officer Lamb has traveled to Japan to learn more about the language and the culture. He even spent two years in Japan teaching English.

Over the last couple of years he's taken exchange students on a tour of the station to give them an idea of what life and a career is like in law enforcement in America.

Officer Lamb said officers here in the states are completely different from what the kids see back home.

"They see it on Hollywood, they see it on movies and that's all they have. When they come here you meet them in person. Police in Japan don't dress like this. Most of them don't have vests or weapons," said Officer Lamb.

The student's who were visiting from Tokyo said they really enjoyed a chance to see the jail cells and the police cruisers.
