VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

An arson suspect was arrested at the scene of an apartment fire in Vancouver on Wednesday morning.

Deputies and firefighters responded to the fire at the Oak Tree Apartments, 7317 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave., at 6 a.m.

They arrived to find flames 10 feet high burning on the side of the complex with people inside. Firefighters managed to quickly put out the fire.

Investigators then discovered three mounted fire extinguishers on the side of the complex had been removed and intentionally discharged, but not in an effort to put out the fire.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Mark O'Neil, had been seen just before the fire alarm was set in the immediate area where the fire had started.

Deputies arrested O'Neil on the charge of first-degree arson, however investigators said the motive is unknown.

No evacuations were ordered and there were no reports of any injuries.
