Newberg Mayor discusses City Manager scandal

Posted: Updated:
NEWBERG, OR (KPTV) -

The Mayor of Newberg said he would address the scandal on Wednesday that has the city asking questions about the City Manager who is on leave, but he didn't say much.

Newberg Police released a new report this week suggesting the City Manager Jacgue Betz has violated city policy. But Betz is accused of being in a sexual relationship with a Newberg police officer when she put police Chief Brian Casey on leave.

On Wednesday, Mayor Bob Andrews did explain what he hopes to do.

He said he won't be able to take any more action until the whole council can meet up again on August 17.

"During that meeting I will be making a recommendation to authorize a complete, objective examination of the issues raised and continue to keep the city manager on administrative leave. We need to ensure that we do our due diligence in this issue," said Mayor Andrews.

Last week, Marion County Investigators decided that Betz had not committed any crimes.

FOX 12 will continue to follow this story and will bring you what happens at that council meeting on Aug. 17.
