WEST LINN, OR (KPTV) -

Alumni from Oregon City and West Linn high schools will duke it out this weekend in a charity football game to raise money for cystic fibrosis research and awareness.

This is the fifth year of the 'Battle for the Bridge.'

Ian Giammanco, an alumnus of West Linn High School, helped found the event, which uses the intense school rivalry to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Giammanco's daughter, Sophia, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was born.

"Behind my daughter being born and the day I got married, it's probably the third greatest thing I've ever been a part of," Giammanco said about the game.

Now eight, Sophia will herself be suiting up for the game, lining up behind the quarterback and getting the handoff for the first snap.

"It's fun to watch the football game, and I like to see dad play in it," Sophia said.

The Battle for the Bridge starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at West Linn High School.
