Vancouver, N. Portland send teams to little league regionals

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

If life gets complicated, just hang around a 12-year-old baseball team. The Cascade little leaguers hope the sun never sets on their endless summer.

With a state championship already in their hip-pocket, the boys from Vancouver are out to pick up a little more hardware.

The 11- and 12-year-olds are bound for southern California for regional play in San Bernardino.

Win there and it's off to the real big time, the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

They are in rare air. Hazel Dell was the last the last Clark County team to qualify for regionals in the year 2000, prior to the berth of anyone on the roster.

"Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be here so if that actually happened that would be pretty awesome," said Ben Jones.

The boys first game is Sunday in San Bernardino, so too for the kids from north Portland. Wilshire-Riverside Little League will represent Oregon. They have a red-eye out of PDX Friday morning.

Like Cascade, if Wilshire-Riverside happens to be northwest crowned regional champion, they will fly directly to compete in the Little League World Series.

GoFundMe links have been setup for both teams. You can find the Wilshire-Riverside fund at this link and the Cascade Little League fund at this link.

The Little League Softball World Series will again be held at Alpenrose Dairy next week. A team From Tigard and Tualatin will represent Oregon. Those opening ceremonies are Wednesday.
