Deputies get restraining order to stop rave in Silverton

Posted: Updated:

Deputies rush to get a restraining order to prevent a popular rave-style party from happening in Silverton.

They say the event, Boombox in da Boondox, was being held illegally.

Deputies tell FOX 12 they were made aware of the party, and after looking into it, they discovered organizers did not get the necessary permits to host it.

Now, they’re shutting it down and standing guard outside of the property on the 900 block of Silver Falls Drive NE to make sure no one goes in.

Dozens of people had to find out the hard way, the multi-day music festival was canceled.

“We drove here in the first half hour, and there were six, or seven officers there. They were all very kind, but they told us this wasn’t going to happen this weekend,” said The Laughing Lunchbox owner Sarah Carpenter.

Carpenter, an advertised vendor at the event, spent the rest of Friday afternoon trying to figure out her next move.  She tells FOX 12 she bought the fixings for some 500 plus sandwiches to sell at the party this weekend.  She’s now scrambling to find somewhere else to sell them.

“This weekend may be at a loss,” said Carpenter. “We made all of these T-shirts and were planning to sell them for ten bucks. We’ll just have them for next year, I’m sure the event will be back.”

The rave-style party was set to begin Friday, on a private 500 acre property. Organizers promised crowds of several hundred people, music, food, camping, laser displays and more.

All things, deputies say, organizers didn’t get the proper permits for. And it all comes down to keeping people safe.

Organizer Justin Down did not return our calls for comment at the time this story aired.

“He’s an exceptional person, he puts on a safe, fun, place of culture in so many ways,” said Carpenter. “I’ve been to other Justin Down events, and I’m always impressed.”

FOX 12 spoke with some people in Silverton who said they were thinking about moving the party elsewhere. Deputies say if that happens, those people could face fines, because that party would also not have the proper permits.
