Police: Woman fell, lying in street before being hit by car

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Police were originally investigating a possible hit-and-run crash in NE Portland, but learned the victim had fallen into the roadway before being hit.

Initial reports about the crash came in around 1:45 p.m. The accident happened at N.E. 1st Ave. and N.E. Lloyd Blvd.

According to police, the driver swerved to avoid the woman, hitting a curb. The driver stopped and called 9-1-1 about the woman lying in the road and then left.

The driver did return to the scene after learning the woman was hit.

Police said the driver is cooperating with investigators. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call the non-emergency line at (503) 823-3333.
