Two Black Lives Matter activists arrested during SE Portland protest

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Black Lives Matter protest to mark one year since Mike Brown was shot and killed by a police officer in Missouri led to two arrests in southeast Portland on Sunday.

Police responded to Southeast 82nd and Division Street at 3:13 p.m. Sunday due to a protest spilling into the street.

Officers arrived to find 75-100 people in the area with some interfering with traffic, according to police.

All lanes of travel ended up blocked at the intersection.

The Portland Police Bureau reports that officers were able to convince the vast majority of protesters to leave the road and protest in a way that wouldn't endanger themselves or block traffic.

Police said two protesters "elected to be arrested as opposed to removing themselves from the street," according to a PPB release. Officers said the arrests were made without the use of force.

The protest ended peacefully, according to police, and nobody was injured. Traffic in the area was blocked for under 10 minutes.

According to a release from the Don't Shoot Portland group, Sunday's gathering was a "Mike Brown Day of Remembrance" as part of a weekend-long series of activities and discussions.
