Prison escapee assaults girlfriend after walking away from work camp

Posted: Updated:

Layce L. Shinault, 24, is wanted by police after walking away from the Salem Work Center August 1, and his girlfriend told Fox 12 that he broke into her home near Keizer Sunday night and assaulted her.

The victim claimed she was thrown to the ground by Shinault, and that he threatened to kill her and the couple’s unborn child.

The victim, who is eight months pregnant, went to an area hospital for treatment, where both she and her baby were ruled unharmed by staff.

Shinault was serving time for a parole violation when Chris Baldridge with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said he was given a four-hour pass to shop for hygiene products and never returned.

Baldridge said there is an active warrant for Shinault’s arrest.

The fugitive has prior convictions for sex abuse, theft, giving false information to police, failing to register as a sex offender and disorderly conduct.

If you have any information that can help locate Shinault, officers ask that you call their tip line at (503) 540-8079.
