SHERWOOD, OR (KPTV) -

A fully involved fire burned a train trestle in Sherwood on Monday.

Crews responded to Southwest Tualatin Sherwood Road and Langer Farms Parkway on reports of a grass fire at 4:20 p.m.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue reported a train trestle at the scene was 100 percent involved, with a brush fire burning below, a short time later.

Crews initiated a defensive fire attack, due to power lines posing a risk to firefighters at the scene. By 5:15 p.m., firefighters had to pull back as the structure appeared to be nearing collapse.

Around 50 firefighters were at the scene Monday evening.

Tualatin Sherwood Road was closed at Century Drive as crews battled the fire. Businesses on the east side of the train trestle were evacuated.

Firefighters also staged at the nearby North Star Chemical facility in case the flames spread toward it.

Portland & Western Railroad reported that tank cars near the trestle were clean and empty and secured a safe distance away.
