PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

It's now been more than a year since Michael Brown was shot and killed in Ferguson, Missouri during a confrontation with a police officer last year.

To mark the anniversary, protestors were out blocking a downtown Portland street on Tuesday.

Demonstrators with the group Black Lives Matter gathered at Fourth and Main Street.

"As long as everyone gets home safe and everybody gets heard, we're fine," said Dana Haynes, Mayor Hales Communications Manager.

The area was shutdown for several hours, but there's no word of any arrests.

"We stand here in solidarity with Ferguson, but also in all of the lives of people who have fallen at the hands of police and have not gotten justice," said Alyssa Pagan, Don't Shoot PDX organizer.

Ferguson has been in a state of unrest during protests over the last few days and there is a state of emergency currently in effect.

During a rally in Ferguson on Sunday, a teenager is accused of shooting at police and is in critical condition after police returned fire.
