TUALATIN, OR (KPTV) -

A man who caught a car prowler in the act held him at gunpoint and then fired a warning shot into the ground when the suspect charged at him, according to police.

Police responded to the 17900 block of Southwest Sioux Court in Tualatin just after midnight Monday.

Police said a man saw someone inside his car attempting to steal items. When he went out to confront the suspect, he found him in a neighbor's car.

Police said the man held the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Chester Friday, at gunpoint while his wife called police.

Friday charged at the man, police said, prompting the car owner to fire a warning shot into the ground.

Police said Friday then ran from the scene, but was caught with the assistance of a Tigard Police Department K-9.

Friday was booked in the Washington County Jail on charges of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and third-degree theft. He was later released on his own recognizance.
