BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

As the start of the school year is getting closer, some Beaverton Police officers took the time to help some kids with back to school shopping on Tuesday.

BPD officers met up with 11 students at the Fred Meyer off Beaverton Hillsdale Highway on Tuesday morning.

The students were nominated by the Beaverton School District, Beaverton PAL and two local shelters.

Elementary school kids all had $100 to spend, while high schoolers had $150.

This is the first year for the 'Shop with a Cop' program and students said they're happy with what the officers helped them pick out.

"I need new PE shoes, so I got some. And then I had three shirts and stuff and some pants. Stuff I need," said 8th grader Cody Erickson.

Fred Meyer also gave each kid a backpack full of school supplies.
