A hit-and-run driver slammed into a box truck, made threats toward the driver of the truck and then a short time later slammed into a sign at a Wendy's restaurant, in front of four K9 officers eating lunch, according to police.

Police responded to the intersection of Southwest Tualatin-Sherwood Road and Martinazzi Avenue in Tualatin at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers arrived and located the driver of a box truck who said a maroon van suddenly and illegally turned left onto Martinazzi Avenue from the outside lane, hitting the truck on the front passenger side bumper.

The driver of the truck went to check on the other driver, but the man behind the wheel of the van uttered "confusing and threatening statements," according to police, and drove off.

A short time later, while having lunch, officers from surrounding agencies witnessed the driver of the van ram into the Wendy's drive-thru directional sign. The van then hit a small tree.

"A gentleman got out and just started shouting incoherent sentences to us," said Officer Daniel Dipietro.  "We didn’t know what he was doing, but we noticed he was just walking away from the car."

Dipietro said three of the officers with him went after the driver,  identified as 30-year-old Elnando Broussard of Portland, while Dipietro jumped into Broussard's van, which had started to roll away into the parking lot.

Broussard was taken into custody, by Tualatin Police Officers, who arrived shortly after the crash. He was booked in the Washington County Jail on charges of hit and run.
