Team Oregon ready to take on the Little League Softball World Series

Team Oregon, made up of 12 girls from the Tigard and Tualatin Little League Softball teams, are taking part in the Little League Softball World Series.

The opening ceremony happened Wednesday at Alpenrose Stadium.

Steven Dardis, the manager for Team Oregon, said the girls, all between 11 and 12, are committed to their sport and worked hard to make it to the World Series.

The games start Thursday, and Team Oregon is scheduled to play four games by Sunday.

Team Oregon’s catcher, Mia Carroll, said playing at this level is quite an honor.

”I feel really good about where we are - I'm happy we'll play teams from other places outside the country and outside district,” she said. “We're playing international teams so I'm really happy & it's been a fantastic experience so far!"

Carroll said that aside from the competition, her team is having a lot of fun making friends with athletes from other countries.

Team Oregon’s first game is against Team Latin America at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.

If they make it to the semi-finals Tuesday, the team will play on national TV. The world championship game is Wednesday, also shown nationally on ESPN2.
