More evacuation orders issued as Cornet Fire spreads

BAKER COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The Baker County Sheriff's Office issued a Level 3 Evacuation Order for residents of Stices Gulch as the Cornet fire continued to spread and firefighters from around Oregon rushed to help get it contained.

A Level 2 Evacuation Order for residents of Denny Creek and the Black Mountain Subdivision was issued as well.

After growing very quickly to more than 12,000 acres, the fire was threatening approximately 170 structures.

Governor Kate Brown invoked an Emergency Conflagration Thursday in response to the fire, prompting the state fire marshal to dispatch fire crews from around the state to assist in fighting the fire.

"The Cornet Fire reminds of us how quickly a fire can grow and how dangerous these dry conditions can be," Governor Brown said in a press release. "I encourage Oregonians to take every step possible to prevent even the slightest spark from becoming a life threatening blaze."

According to the release, the emergency was declared for the Cornet Fire only and is effective immediately.
