ONTARIO, OR (KPTV) -

Interstate 84 Westbound was shut down at Ontario (Exit 374) and Eastbound at Pendleton (Exit 216) due to wildfires near milepost 317, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The large closure lasted into the evening due to hot, windy weather conditions.

By 8 p.m., ODOT announced the highway had reopened in eastern Oregon.

ODOT said the eastbound closure moved from La Grande to Pendleton due to limited space and services available to accommodate stranded trucks and other motorists.

Travelers were advised to use alternate routes and are cautioned to stay on main highways.

ODOT said to avoid following GPS directions onto forest, BLM or other remote roadways. There may be other roadways closed or affected by wildfires.
