PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The beloved Portland entertainer known as Rusty Nails was remembered on Thursday during his memorial service.

The popular clown, who's real name was James Allen, once entertained kids on FOX 12.

Rusty Nails also performed at local events including the Rose Festival.

Allen died late last month at the age of 87.

"We are reminded that he loved deeply, laughed whole heartedly, and was a master of timing. He knew that even a good show had to come to a conclusion. So if Jim could say one thing to us here today, surely it would be words like this: Until I see you again, be good, stay happy and bye for now," said a friend at the memorial service.

On The Simpsons, Krusty the Clown was loosely based on Rusty Nails.

The show's creator Matt Groening, who is a Portland native, said he watched Rusty Nails on TV for years.
