Dave Dahl '100 percent cool' with sale of Dave's Killer Bread

Posted: Updated:

Dave Dahl, the face of Dave’s Killer Bread is sharing his thoughts on the $275 million sale of the Milwaukie-based bread brand he created ten years ago.

Dahl was not involved in the negotiations with Flowers Foods, the second largest baking company in the United States, but he does still own a little more than 20 percent of Dave's Killer Bread.

He said the acquisition, which is still pending, was not what he had in mind back when he started baking his bread in 2005, but he now fully supports the sale.

"I'm 100 percent cool with it now,” Dahl said. “I would have never thought that I would have been able to give up my passion for the company. I still have it and I am still proud.”

Dave's Killer Bread said its 300 employees in Oregon will keep their jobs after the sale, and the company will continue its "Second Chance" hiring practices. Currently 30 percent of the company's employees are ex-convicts.

“I want to see the employees do well, I want to see the company do well,” Dahl said. “I want it to continue to do good things, which I believe that we will continue to do.”

As for Dahl, he is still active in public speaking, and he said he now has more time for his hobbies at home, like playing guitar, collecting African masks and baking fresh pizza in his wood-fired oven.
