Homes evacuated near John Day due to Canyon Creek Complex Fire

JOHN DAY, OR (KPTV) -

Hundreds of people have been evacuated near John Day due to a growing wildfire.

The Canyon Creek Complex fire started on Wednesday by a lightning strike south of Canyon City and has now grown to more than 34,000 acres.

The fire is threatening 300 homes in and around communities of John Day and Canyon City. It has been confirmed that 26 homes have burned down.

Multiple evacuations have been issued by the Grant County Sheriff's Department across the area. 

Level Two evacuation notices have been issued for the following areas:
Laycock Creek
Nans Rock Road
Marysville - North
Dog Creek
Adams Drive
West Bench 

Level Three evacuation notices have been issued for the following areas:
Dog Creek
Marysville - South 
Pine Creek
Canyon Creek
Edgewood Drive

Those under a Level I evacuation notice need to be aware of the situation. 

Those under a Level II evacuation notice need to prepare to leave on short notice.

Those under a Level III evacuation notice need to evacuate immediately.
