PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A fight during a child's birthday party led to a shooting at Laurelhurst Park, according to police.

Officers responded to the southeast Portland park at 4:51 p.m. Sunday on reports of shots fired.

They located evidence of gunfire and spoke to numerous witnesses, but no gunshot victims were immediately identified.

However, about 20 minutes later, police said a man was dropped off at a Portland hospital with a gunshot wound. He was later identified as 20-year-old Ejante Paden. Police said he was not cooperative with investigators.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

Investigators said the shooting victim and the suspect had started arguing at a child's birthday party in the southeast section of the park, near the dance studio, when the shooting occurred.

Both the shooter and the victim then ran away from the scene. Several vehicles also took off, but police are still working to determine if they were driven by witnesses or people related to the shooting.

The suspect remained on the loose Sunday evening. He is described as a black man, 25-30 years old, 5'8" tall with a medium build. He was wearing all black clothing.

The Gang Enforcement Team responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Crime scene tape surrounded a table decorated for a birthday party as police conducted their investigation.

Southeast Oak Street was closed between 37th Avenue and Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard.

Officers later located a vehicle that was possibly involved in the shooting at Northeast Sacramento Street and Rodney Avenue. Officers closed streets in the area as they attempted to contact someone inside a nearby home.

Police said there was no public safety risk outside of the home in question.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information should contact the Gang Enforcement Team at 503-823-4106 or gangs@portlandoregon.gov.
