BAKER CITY, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters battling an eastern Oregon wildfire rescued an injured rabbit from a creek bed and fed it baby carrots from their sack lunches.

They named the rabbit, "Courage."

The rabbit rescue, which also involved giving the animal water, happened as crews continued working to contain the Cornet-Windy Ridge Fire.

According to an overview of the fire, which was previously two separate lightning-caused fires that merged into one near Baker City, it has burned more than 88,000 acres and was 5 percent contained Sunday night.

The estimated containment date is Aug. 23.

Firefighters described Sunday's conditions as "favorable" for their firefighting efforts.

The rabbit was rescued by crews from Columbia River Fire & Rescue. The photo was posted on the official Facebook page for the Cornet-Windy Ridge Fire on Sunday.
