Police: Woman repeatedly tries to grab child in Pearl District restaurant

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police are trying to track down a woman who repeatedly attempted to grab a child in a Pearl District restaurant.

Officers took a report from a family who said they were dining at Paragon, 1309 N.W. Hoyt St., at 9:30 p.m. Sunday when an unknown woman approached their table.

The woman commented about how cute their 4-year-old boy was, according to police.

The family told police the woman left, but then returned, stood outside the restaurant and reached in through the open roll-up doors to pick up the child, saying she wanted to hold him.

The family told the woman to stop, but she reached in a second time. At that point, police said the father told her to stop again and the woman walked away.

"It was not clear to the family if the woman was actually trying to abduct the child, had mental health issues or was terribly unaware of social boundaries and norms," according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Investigators later learned the woman was not a customer at the restaurant.

She is described as a white woman in her early to mid-30s, 5'4" to 5'6" with a medium build and red shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a patterned orange dress.

Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the woman is asked contact detectives at 503-823-0400.
