Columbia Sportswear posts dream job opening for adventurers: 'Director of Toughness'

Posted: Updated: Aug 17, 2015 06:03 PM

Columbia Sportswear's newest job opening is unlike any other on the company's website.

Sure, it will pay $26,000 with benefits for six months, provide housing in Portland as well as travel around the world.

What makes the job listing so unique, however, is the one area of expertise necessary to be a qualified applicant: Toughness. Not to mention whoever is hired will spend their first day on the job in front of a national TV audience.

The job title is "Director of Toughness."

The Director of Toughness position is a real gig for real adventure-seekers. Columbia is looking to hire two people to test the company's gear "in the most challenging weather and daunting topography they can find."

They will also be documenting and broadcasting their adventures to the world.

"If you feel alive in the wild, dream of Snapchatting a 100 ft. cliff-dive, Instagramming from the top of Mount Rainier and putting gear to the ultimate test, this position is for you!" the job application site states.

There will be two job screening events for the positions, one in Portland on Sept. 8 and the other in New York on Sept. 12.

Qualified candidates must be skilled at skiing or snowboarding, as well as hiking, and have a passion for creatively sharing wilderness adventures with others.

An outgoing, media-savvy personality is also a must, as the adventures of the Directors of Toughness will be shown on social media and TV.

In fact, the final two candidates will be unveiled on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Health insurance coverage, along with other benefits, will be provided throughout the duration of the job.
