SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A hay truck fire created a long commute for people driving northbound on Interstate 5 in Salem on Monday.

Oregon State Police said all northbound lanes from Milepost 258 to 260 were closed at around 3 p.m. as crews attempted to put out the fire.

By 5 p.m., the Oregon Department of Transportation reported one northbound lane of I-5 had reopened, but traffic was still moving very slowly through the area.

Drivers were advised to use alternate routes or expect long delays.

By 7 p.m., a second lane had opened.

FOX 12 viewer photos showed large flames coming from bales of hay on the back of a trailer before firefighters arrived.

There were no immediate reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
