VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

The Cascade Little League team from Vancouver Is home, their trip to the Little League Regional playoffs over after a simple touch.

The team had been down by five runs, but had got to within one run after a wild play.

Coach Brendan McCarthy was at third base to with player Mason Hill as the opposing team from Idaho was slowing walking back to their positions. Seeing no one covering home, McCarthy tapped Hill, who slid into home, seemingly tying the score.

Instead, the umpire at third called an out, ending the game and the team’s playoff run.

McCarthy’ simple touch, since it happened while play was still live, broke Little League rules.

While McCarthy said he just tapped Hill to get his attention, he did not argue with the ump.

Monday, McCarthy was still incredibly remorseful and accepted the responsibility for the loss. He told Fox 12 he has apologized to his team.

“The chance to get to Williamsport to play in the Little League World Series happens once . When you're a 12-year-old Little League player and you're the manager or coach of a Little League team, that's your one chance” McCarthy said. “And so this was our chance and to have it end because of something I did, as I said I’ll have to live with that.”

Hill and the rest of the team support their coach, and said he did not need to apologize. Hill said the team is grateful for all the hard work that McCarthy does for the team.

Sometimes things happen, but you can't let one thing bring you down for your whole life,” he said. “You've got to pass it on.”

Though Cascade is out of the tournament, the Wilshire-Riverside Little League still remains in the Little League World Series. They kick of Opening round play Thursday at noon against the Southwest region champions Pearland West Little League out of Texas.
