Snohomish team eliminated from Little League Softball World Series after game-throwing allegations, tie-breaker

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A softball team from Snohomish, Washington has been eliminated from the Little League Softball World Series after a tie-breaker with a team from Iowa that accused Snohomish of purposely losing a game.

ESPN reported Snohomish rested its four best players in pool play Monday, resulting in an 8-0 loss to North Carolina.

That loss resulted in a three-way tie with Central Iowa, and Iowa was eliminated from the tournament.

The Iowa team filed a complaint and the Little League International Tournament Committee scheduled a tie-breaker game between Snohomish and Central Iowa to settle the issue.

In a statement, the committee said:

The Little League International Tournament Committee recently received credible reports that some teams did not play with the effort and spirit appropriate for any Little League game.

Given these circumstances and in order to best determine the second team to advance from Pool B, the Little League International Tournament Committee is requiring that a tie-breaker game be played between the two affected teams – South Snohomish Little League and Central Iowa Little League.

Central Iowa won Tuesday's tie-breaker 3-2 to advance to the semifinals.
