BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

Beaverton Police arrested a woman who is accused of scamming four people by showing them a vacant apartment, collecting cash and then giving them a fake key.

Police have received reports of this incident that date back to June 22.

Police said the victims would place ads on Craigslist looking for a room or apartment to rent and then they were contacted by a woman who identified herself as Jessica or Kelly about an available apartment.

The victims then met the suspect at the Country Oaks Apartment and were shown a vacant apartment. The victims would give the suspect anywhere from $450 to $300 cash and receive a key to the apartment.

Police said the problem was that the key wouldn't work for the apartment. The victims would then contact the apartment manager and find out they had been scammed and that Jessica or Kelly didn't work there.

Police identified the suspect as Michelle Ann Sather, 40.

Sather was arrested on Monday and taken to the Washington County Jail and charged with three counts of burglary in the first degree and one count of theft.

Beaverton Police said they believe there might be more victims of this scam.

If you were a victim of this scam please call the Beaverton Police Department at (503) 629-0111 and reference case number 15-2010656.
