PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland city worker helped stop a carjacking in Portland on Tuesday morning, according to police.

Police said the carjacking happened at the intersection of NE Glisan and Cesar Chavez.

Benjamin Manzanares, 37, was trying to open car doors as the cars slowed down around the traffic circle.

Police said the suspect is mentally ill and was able to get inside one car.

The driver stopped and a City of Portland electrician went and helped get Manzanares out of the car while they waited for officers.

Manzanares was taken to jail and booked on trespassing and disorderly conduct.
