BROOKINGS, OR (KPTV) -

A Brookings man was arrested after attempting to break-in to a home and injuring the homeowner on Monday.

Curry County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported break-in around 11:46 p.m.

Police said Amanda Davidson was home when an unknown man tried to break in through her back door. Davidson woke up her significant other, Jeffrey Burke, who went to confront the subject and was attacked by the suspect.

During the struggle, Burke used pepper spray to gain control of the suspect and held him down until police could arrive.

A Deputy arrived and arrested James Hart-Alderson, 18. Brookings Police responded to help the Deputy since Hart-Alderson was being extremely intoxicated, belligerent, combative and uncooperative.

Hart-Alderson was taken to Curry General Hospital due to his intoxicated condition and the pepper spray. His blood alcohol content was .28% and he did admit to consuming meth before the break-in.

Hart-Alderson was later taken to Curry County Jail and charged with Assault IV, Harassment, Criminal Trespass II and Disorderly Conduct.

Burke suffered a severe medical issue and was taken to Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City. His condition worsened and he was flown to Rogue Valley Hospital in Medford where he is in critical condition.

The Curry County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
