Incoming college freshmen have always had Google, never licked a stamp

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Young adults entering college this year have grown up in a world where Google and South Park have always been around and stamps have always been self-adhesive.

Those are some of the revelations from this year's Beloit College Mindset List, which highlights the cultural and societal changes that make the younger generation unique.

Students in the class of 2019 were mostly born in 1997, so they see the world a little differently than older generations.

For example, as long as they've been alive:

  • E-mail has generally been used for 'formal' communication
  • Google has always helped them find what they're looking for online
  • Princess Diana, Mother Teresa and Notorious B.I.G. have all been dead
  • Splenda has always been an alternative to sugar
  • They've never licked a postage stamp
  • The front page of The New York Times has always been in color
  • South Park has always been on TV
  • Voting in Oregon has always been done by mail
  • Hybrid cars have always been in production
