Fire crews gain control over Willamina fire

YAMHILL COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Yamhill County Fire officials said Thursday that a wildfire burning near Willamina is under control.

As of Thursday morning, the fire on Oregon Department of Forestry land was approximately 100 acres in size and 5 percent contained.

ODF crews remained on the scene overnight to monitor the fire, and most local fire agencies have been released.

East Creek Road remains closed at Willamina Creek.

Residents are still are not allowed to return to their homes yet, and conditions will be reevaluated Thursday.

The fire began nine miles north of Willamina on Wednesday.

Level 2 evacuation notices were issued Wednesday for residents of East Creek Road north of Willamina, and a Level 3 evacuation noticed were issued for four cabins in the area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
