A man waiting outside the Bud Clark Commons homeless housing center was stabbed in the neck by a woman who had been sleeping on the ground, according to Portland police.

Officers responded to Northwest 6th and Irving Street at 6 a.m. on the report of a stabbing.

They located the 46-year-old victim who said he was waiting for the Bud Clark Commons to open when he got into an argument with a woman.

He said she was sleeping on the ground, but got up and stabbed him in the back of the neck with a small pocket knife. She then ran away.

The man was taken to a Portland hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

The woman was not caught. She is described as a Native American woman, 40 to 50 years old, 5'5" to 5'7" with a heavy build and salt and pepper hair. She was wearing a white T-shirt and a Chicago Bulls hat.
