ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -

Actor Sean Astin is coming to the defense of the owner of an Astoria home that was featured in the 1985 hit movie 'The Goonies.'

The owner recently covered the home with blue tarps in response to what an Astoria city councilor described as a flood of visitors flocking to see the famous house.

Councilman Russ Warr said as many as 1,500 people visit the house every day, and some have been destructive and even relieved themselves on the property.

On Friday, Sean Astin, who played 'Mikey' in the film, published a long post on Facebook in which he called for visitors to be respectful of the home and its owner.

"The current owner of the Goonies House is entitled to respect and common courtesy. So, it's my childhood home, sort of, and I'm telling everyone to BACK OFF!!!" Astin wrote.

He added that respecting the home is what a true Goonie would do.

"The movie is about children who love their homes so much that they fight to protect them," Astin said.

Warr said the city council was considering additional measure to protect the homeowner's privacy.
