Willamina Creek Fire update

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters worked Friday night on completing containment lines around the perimeter of the Willamina Creek Fire.

Crews hope that it holds up through Saturday’s warm weather, and will be focusing on securing lines that were most active Friday.

Fire managers ordered additional air support and were able to utilize assistance from an additional medium helicopter and three Single Engine Air tankers.

The aerial support made a big difference in cooling down the hot spots of the wildfire.

The fire started Wednesday August 19 approximately 9 miles north of Willamina, and is about 15 percent contained.

Four cabins along East Creek Road remain under a Level 3 evacuation.

Fire crews want to remind the public that the fire area is closed to public access, and a road block is in place on Willamina Creek Road north on the junction with Coast Creek Road.
