Crews fight brush fire near Oregon City

Posted: Updated:

A fire broke out Saturday in Clackamas County and spread across a field.

It started as a small grass fire behind a house northeast of Oregon City in a rural area.

Officials with Clackamas Fire District 1 said it burned about four acres before crews could get it under control, and that the weather makes fires like these spread very quickly.

"We have really been very lucky so far this year because we haven't had any wind. The fuels are ripe and ready to burn," Battalion Chief John Oliver said. "Normally in our season, starts about the middle of August, we get the east winds, and that's what happened today."

Nobody was hurt in the fire and no structures were damaged. Officials are still trying to determine a cause.
