PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

No doubt you and everyone you know talked about the thick smoke hanging in the air from the wildfires.

The air quality in Portland Saturday went from moderate to very unhealthy within a matter of hours.

Despite the smoke people went out and about attending different weekend events.

Many packed Esther Short Park for the Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival.

Festival goers said the smoke didn't change how the wine tasted, doctors said it cause for some concern.

“If you have an underlying condition use common sense, don't push it, be in touch with a doctor if you're not feeling well,” Dr. Paul Lewis with the Oregon Health Authority explained. “We're most concerned about extremes of age, elderly and the children, but also people who have problems with their heart or lungs.”

Doctors advise that if anyone does head outside while the smoke is still in the air, they should take it easy and refrain from heavy exercise until the air quality improves.
